Mario Alfredo Salas Saieg (born October 11, 1967) is a former Chilean football midfielder. He obtained a total number of five caps for the Chilean national team, scoring no goals between 1993 and 1997. Salas made his debut on 1993-09-08 in a friendly match against Spain in Alicante. The Chilean national football team represents Chile in all major international football competitions. The team is controlled by the Federación de Fútbol de Chile which was established in 1895. They have appeared in eight World Cup tournaments and were hosts of the 1962 FIFA World Cup finishing in third place, the highest position the country has ever gotten in the World Cup. Since the mid to late 60's, the Elo ratings ranks Chile among the 25 strongest football teams in the world.
